Monday Money Saving Tip – Leftover Love

Share

With all those summer barbeques, there are bound to be leftovers. Check out this Monday money saving tip to get the most out of those leftovers.

Leftover grill meat. Grilled chicken is one of my favorite leftovers. I slice it in strips and add it to salads. I also add this or sliced steak to quesadillas. Leftover hot dogs are the perfect addition to macaroni and cheese. Slice leftover italian sausage to add to pasta sauce. Chop leftover burgers and cook with seasoning for use as taco meat.

Snack leftovers. Use leftover pretzels and chips in place of salad croutons. These snacks also taste great dipped in chocolate. Leftover chips and salsa are perfect for making taco salads. Just add lettuce, beans and taco meat.

Desserts Take all those dessert leftovers and make an ice cream bar. Use cookies as the “bread” in ice cream sandwiches. Brownies make the perfect foundation for sundaes. Use assorted candies for toppings: M&Ms, gummy bears, chopped up candy bars, cotton candy. Use the plain milk chocolate for making hot fudge.

The sum of all leftovers. In the Rochester, NY area, we have a restaurant that makes Garbage Plates, plates that combine a smorgasbord of food. Make a plate with hot dogs, burgers, beans, macaroni and potato salad. Warning! This option is not good for weak stomachs.

All you need is a little creativity to make the most of those leftovers. Until next time, Happy Homemaking!
